For use on clothing, tents, sleeping bags, and other outdoor gear, Sawyer Permethrin repels or kills disease-spreading ticks (Lyme disease), mosquitoes (West Nile and Zika viruses) and more than 55 other kinds of insects. Perfect for camping, backpacking, hunting, travel, backyard BBQs, picnics, and more. Permethrin insect and tick repellent adds an odorless layer of protection to shirts, jackets, pants, socks, shoes, sleeping bags, tents, netting, and other outdoor, camping, hunting, and travel gear. A University of Rhode Island study (2017) found that people wearing Permethrin-treated shoes and socks were 73.6 times less likely to have a tick bite than those wearing untreated footwear. Using it on outdoor gear also helps reduce the mosquito population in your camp and prevents ticks from attaching to you. Permethrin spray bonds to fabric fibers for up to 6 weeks (42 days) of exposure to sun or 6 washings. Sawyer Permethrin does not come out from sweat or water contact. It only degrades via UV exposure or the agitation of a washing machine. Specially formulated not to stain or damage your clothing, other fabrics, gear, and equipment, it’s odorless after drying and is as effective as 100% DEET. To apply, spray Permethrin directly onto clothing and gear with a slow sweeping motion, keeping the bottle about 6 to 8 inches away, and treating each side of the garment for about 30 seconds. The EPA recommends using 4.5 ounces of Permethrin to spray each outfit (consisting of shirt, pants, and socks). Maximize protection by pairing with Sawyer Picaridin topical repellent for the skin.Sawyer Products has offered the best, most technologically advanced solutions for protection against sun, bugs, water, and injuries – everything from first aid kits developed for wilderness to point-of-use water filters that filter contaminated water to levels cleaner than U. S. bottled water.

Worked fantastically with other prevention steps — ALMOST NO MOSQUITO BITES AFTER NINE DAYS IN THE JUNGLE!!!
I just came back from a nine-day trip deep into the Peruvian jungle — into the reserve part of Manu National Park. It was an incredible journey! Fantastic nature, and incredibly isolated and pristine (an area never disturbed, and still inhabited by non-contacted peoples). But ahead of time I was extremely nervous about mosquito bites, because twice in the last ten years or so I have been to the emergency clinic with dozens of bug bites and a very strong allergic reaction to them. I practically obsessed over what to do to prevent mosquito bites as much as possible, because I have had such a strong reaction to bug bites, and the jungle is certainly full of mosquitos and other biting insects!.I am very happy to say that everything that I did worked — I got very few bites, and I didn’t even notice them until I searched for them. Everyone else in our group got plenty of bites, and they were itching like crazy, but not me!!!Here is what I did and what I brought:1. I have a Peruvian friend who is a doctor. He told me to take Vitamin B complex every day for a week before the trip and every day in the jungle. I used these:

    WORKS
Heavy duty. I went into tick infested woods for an 8 mile hike—not one bite. I sprayed my boots, gear, pack and outerwear the day before. Spray is toxic to dogs and cats & humans when wet so I sprayed my stuff in the front driveway, blowing away from me with gloves on and left it there to dry during the day and overnight. I don’t recommend using it if there’s a chance of rain or water from kayaking on clothes at all.Prevents ticks at all life stages. They will still crawl on you but you can see the poison kill or confuse them and flick them off

    BUGS WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE
I have no idea if it is my blood type or what, but bugs drive me crazy. I get chewed alive. I watched the video on how to apply it, it was detailed and it was easy. I let them dry. Sprayed again, let dry and I will tell you this. I did not get one chigger on me and the mosquitos left me alone too. If the bugs are bothersome to you, you should really give this product a try, you will be happy that you did for sure.

    Unhelpful sprayer
I’m sure this product works fine, it’s been very well reviewed both by customers and independent labs. But it loses a star because I found the sprayer mechanism to be pretty frustrating. You can choose between either a steam/jet or a cone-shaped mist; not clear why anyone would need the stream, the cone is the setting to use. But the cone pattern on an item of clothing means (duh) you’ve got a hole in the middle that is uncovered, unsprayed. Given the emphasis the manufacturer makes on complete coverage, one has to spray and spray and spray some more to make sure everything is covered…leaving some sections overly saturated. I tried moving the nozzle while I sprayed, which improved things a bit, but still couldn’t help but spray too much over much of the item in order to get complete coverage of every square inch. Frustrating.

    works great
Works great for repelling insects. Less toxic than many well-established alternatives but seems to work well anyhow. However, while less toxic than DEET for example, I still spray onto pant cuffs, shirt cuffs, and the neck of my shirt rather than directly on skin. There’s a warning about using where pets can get into this product, but I spray the screens to reduce insect intrusion which seems to work well and the dried product is not supposed to be dangerous for pets, especially if they can’t get near the window.

    Came here from wirecutter
I had read an article about the best way to guard against insects in the upcoming summer apocalypse (it’s worse every year, oof) and was thrilled to read about this stuff, which I then quickly purchased. It’s a bit ..I was sort of scared to dive right in as the directions state and drench my nice sneakers in this stuff, so I opted to test it out on a pair of more expendable tennis shoes. It worked, well! And there was no mess, which I also feared. It dried clear and didn’t irritate my skin when wearing. So, I’m in. Def recommend.

    No tick bites
We live in a wooded area and ticks are horrible here especially with the large deer population. We were using deet products that just were not working. I did some research and learned that deet only really works when it is wet. I ordered the Sawyer permethrin. Sprayed a set of clothing for each one in the family to wear when working in our garden. No tick bites! Very satisfied with this product! 😁

    Great Product
I am very adverse to poison ivy. After experiencing a severe case while digging in an area I thought was poison ivy free, I searched for a product that would protect me. Sawyer was highly recommended by hikers so I gave it a try. I am so thrilled with the results. I needed to finish digging out the area that had poison ivy. After spraying to kill it, it was still showing as active in the garden. So I sprayed my clothes, allowed them to dry and them proceeded to dig out a large area of the garden. I was so pleased to see that I had no poison ivy! Highly recommend this product and I will continue to use it for protection.

    強烈な有機溶剤の臭いで倒れそうになります。もろにガソリンを吹きかけるイメージです。またスプレーする時、必ず液だれして指がピリピリと痛みます。ものすごく肌に悪い薬品を使用している感じがします。
