How did we get our start?

While working in his family’s dairy and serving in Italy in WWII, Myron Breakstone saw firsthand how hard it was to stay warm in harsh conditions. In 1954, he started RefrigiWear Clothing Company.

What makes our products unique?

We visit thousands of jobsites every year—right beside the workers we serve—to make sure we are always delivering quality products for you

Why do we love what we do?

We eat, sleep, and breathe our purpose—creating better products for the cold. For over 60 years, our first thought when we get up has been “the same-old-same-old isn’t good enough.”

    Warm and flexy
Great jacket, i can see myself toasty through all kinds of weather.I got the men’s XL since I don’t have wide hips and a larger chest, it fits great, I chose to go a size up since I’ll probably be outside chaining my tires in bad weather and I’m glad I did, it allows for more movement and a hoodie layer underneath. It’s definitely bulky but still allows for flexibility. It’s a bit snug at the forearms but not anything crazy. The inner zipper is a little uncomfortable at the neck line but nothing you can’t get past with a turtle neck or a dickie.

    An incredible jacket
I had searched all over for a jacket like this Refrigiwear extreme jacket and am glad I found it, for $195. It is an awesome jacket. If there are a few things that are questionable it is all the little markings on the jacket, but thankfully they are all small, and the piping that is reflective and a darker gray and not white, but other than these things, the jacket is perfect.I play in the cold all winter long. I ride both a snowmobile and snowbike and need a jacket that is tough and warm and can take some abuse. I got the large jacket which was good as I can layer under the coat and bigger jackets always keep me warmer as I do have an unlined shell that is even bigger that I always wear over the coat to keep my extra warm and protected in anything and any sort of cold. All the prior reviews about how warm the jacket is are true. I was skeptical about the -60F rating but I can now see how it might keep one warm down to it as I was in a tech t-shirt and with just the jacket on and in temps in the teens, I was not cold outside at all. Once I started doing some organizing in the cold garage, I had to unzip the jacket to cool down as the jacket is really warm.I do love the double zipper system as I can zip/unzip as needed to stay cool or zip up fully to stay warm.I also like the liner that is silver, reflective and slick so dirt won’t stick and neither will any sort of clothing. The foil-like liner also helps to keep the heat.Update: March 9th, 2019.Wow. The jacket has way exceeded expectations. It is an incredibly warm and very, very well made jacket. I’ve been using it primarily for snowmobiling where I’ve been out in single digits-F, and traveling at 30-50 mpg(wind chills are well below zero with the wind chill), and with nothing but a short sleeved tech shirt under the jacket, I have NOT been cold, not even a little.I have not even missed not having a hood and have also not needed even a hat when it is cold, by cold, I think of the teens F, and because I got a Large, I have not needed to worry about a hat at all or a headcovering to stay warm as the jacket keeps my body nice and toasty.Thank goodness Refrigiwear kept the logos and patches to a minimum as it is the only part of the jacket I don’t like but I can live with them as they are all small and the performance of the jacket in the cold is just superior.

    Amazing!!!!
*****UPDATE BELOW*****This jacket works wonders! I haven’t actually tried it out in the “extreme cold” yet but it works well as a windbreaker and it does good at keeping the cold out! (Will update as soon as I can) I live in Vermont so for the people who live here knows how cold it gets. Also it is extremly comfortable! It is a little bulkier than what it looks like and weighs at least a good 7ish pounds so it is kinda heavy for a softshell but it does work well! Also it has pretty good reflective qualities to it. A word of advice though. If you are looking for more movement you should order a size or even 2 sizes up, if you are looking for a tighter feeling than get your size because the sizes do run a little small/snug. I don’t know why they didn’t put a hood on it though (probably cause it is a softshell but it would’ve been 10 times better if it came with a hood). But this jacket is extremely comfortable and absolutely amazing! You will not be disappointed!************UPDATE**********Okay so after further use of the jacket it works amazing! It’s finally cold here where I live and it works amazing. Like I said in my previous comment, order a size up so you’ll have more room. But it is amazing! The reflective piping works fantastic as well. Overall this is an amazing jacket and I highly suggest it.

Passes the east coast winter test
My father in law and I are Longshoreman in NJ the winters are very cold and this coat is tough and passes the test to keep us warm. Light long sleeve and this coat is enough for the long days at the docks.

    Warm and built to last!
This jacket is everything I hoped it would be. I live in the Mission Mountains in Northwest Montana. This jacket is perfect for our winter weather. It is comfortable and will definitely keep you warm in extreme conditions.

    Great Cold-Weather Jacket
When I first handled this jacket, I was surprised at how heavy & bulky it was. Then I realized that it had to be to work in extreme cold temperatures. When I ordered the jacket, it was getting down to around 35-40 degrees. When the jacket arrived, the temperatures had gone up to the 50’s & 60’s. I wore the jacket one for a walk & it was comfortable during a windy 50 degrees. I’m waiting for some weather that is cold enough to give it a real test. The design is really clever. There are two front zippers. An inner zipper can be zipped while leaving the outer zipper open & the jacket will stay closed, which is an excellent feature for when it’s cold, but not freezing.I have another jacket that cost twice as much as this one & didn’t keep me warm. There are several waterproof pockets that are easy to get to.

only buy on deals..dont get it regular season like me….
Nice coat and warm..but in terms of pricing, the people of RefrigiWear are not too honest..I bought the jacket 175 bucks, one week before blackfriday deals..but i had it in my wish list for way longer..i didnt get any alert that the price will go down..i could gladly wait and save me some money..plus now which i look the price..they still have it for 140,as it was on black friday deals..so i overpaid it…which is annoying…

    Feels amazing!
We bought these jackets to take to Alaska North Slope. We have tried them on and they fit well. They arrived super quick at Christmas time when shipping slows down. The jackets feel like they are made well and will keep you warm. We live in Louisiana and we will update after we reach the North Slope!!!!! I am 5 ft 3 and 167 and I ordered the large which is a little big but I wanted to be able to get extra clothes underneath. If you are my size a medium would work.

  9. Denise

My husband loves it and he said it is very warm. He will need that when he shovels in winter. Finally a jacket that fits him perfectly. We received it so quickly.
