   Nice portable speaker
   This is a nice portable speaker that is designed to take anywhere. It’s an ideal size to toss in a beach bag, etc. and has several mounting options for maximum convenience and utility. The speaker comes with a bracket suitable for attachment to anything that has a small rod like a bike handlebar, a beach wagon, stroller, etc. The speaker itself securely twists onto the bracket. It also comes with a carabiner to clip on to something like a bag. If I have something metal, there is a built in magnet that allows it to stick firmly. That’s super handy when I’m grilling and want to stick it to the side of the grill or gazebo. The battery lasts a long time for me, only needing rare charging. I liked how easy it was to pair with my phone. It always connects automatically after the initial pairing. It is completely waterproof and ready for use in any environment. It’s my go-to that I carry with me everywhere I want music because of its size and quality sound.

   Decent For The Price Range, But Sound Quality Still Falls Short
   BRIEF SUMMARY:    Having reviewed and tested over a dozen Bluetooth speakers in varying price ranges (including the new HYDRAMINI 2.0), I agree with another reviewer that this one is not bad, but the sound quality could be better.  Even though this is bigger than the HYDRAMINI 2.0 and the bass response is greater, the HYDRAJOLT 2.0 still has some of the same drawbacks – dynamic range is not very wide, the treble sounds a bit harsh, and overall it sounds a bit “boxy.”   In addition, this one tends to sound a bit muffled and bass-heavy compared to its smaller sibling.  That makes it good for audiobooks but not as great for music.The Good Points:1.  This Altec-Lansing speaker has a small form factor although it is more than a pound and a half, so not super lightweight.   It has an IP67 waterproof rating and design which means that it will withstand splashing and will even float if it falls in the water.2.  This speaker does not take long to fully charge (2-3 hours at most).   I will continue to test how long the charge lasts as I am not sure yet.3.   This speaker comes with a blue carabiner clip (backpack, hiking) as well as a bicycle mount if you want to use either to carry it.4.  The base is magnetic which makes it easy to attach this speaker to a metal (non-aluminum)  surface.5.  When powering the speaker on and off, there is no loud BOOM or loud voice as on many newer Bluetooth speakers.  There is a calm, low “radio” kind of voice that will not wake the rest of the house or apartment.6.  The controls at the top are fairly simple and not overly complicated.  Too many newer Bluetooth speakers and portable CD players have overly complicated controls tat are hard to remember without constantly consulting the manual.  7.  This Bluetooth on this speaker performed VERY well when paired with my Pixel phone.  I took the speaker from room to room and even though there were multiple walls and a hallway to serve as an obstacle course, the sound was not affected.  Once I got to the room farthest from the phone (about 50 feet away), the sound was still clear, and there was no sputtering or fluttering.  I give a big thumbs up for that.The Not-So-Good Points:1.  I tested this speaker with different types of music, from dance to classical to rock and pop, to heavy metal.  The sound separation is good although I’ve heard better in the $60-$70 price range.  The music is punchy enough but the dynamic range and depth of the sound could also be better, meaning music tends to sound a bit flat and “boxy.”   Highs are slightly muffled and overall this speaker leans toward the bassier side of things.  I experimented with the EQ controls on whatever app I was playing music from, and could not get to where I would be happy for regular listening.  However keep in mind that I am picky and more of a dilettante audiophile.  I have a favorite Bluetooth speaker in the $70 range that I’d much rather use.2.  While the bass response is decent for a small speaker, it’s not the type of bass that you will feel “thumping” out of the speaker.   I tested it with different types of music including some dance, disco, and EDM, and yes, you could have a small pool party with it but unless you are standing or dancing in front of the speaker, you will not feel a lot of bass.   But it’s decent enough.3.  There is a Prop 65 Cancer Warning on the box, for harmful substances on or inside the device.  I was told by customer service to contact the corporate office to find out what this is for.  Once I find out I will post it here.CONCLUSION:   Based on performance in relation to price, features, and value, this is a pretty good speaker but it is not without its drawbacks.   As someone who likes deep bass, clarity, and warmer highs, this speaker is lacking in those areas so I would not choose this for when I want to hear really good quality sound that would impress me.  However, for casual kitchen / bathroom / garage / outdoor listening, I would be okay with this, although I would feel like I’m missing something (since I am picky).   That said, based on an older Altec-Lansing speaker that I have, this is a great improvement so they are on an upward trend as far as I am concerned.  I just think they still have a ways to go to become a real contender in the smaller speaker market.

   Absolutely fantastic, all purpose speaker
   I have another Altec Lansing speaker than was intended to be out tailgating/beach/outdoor activity speaker but when that arrived, I loved it so much that I kept it for my computer LOL. Now, over a year later I spotted this one which is similar in function but even BETTER as far as features, so I had to get it…and I’m SO glad I did. Here’s why:1. It’s an all the way around awesome looking speaker. From the design to the lighting to the size, this thing is pretty perfect. It looks and feels like a high end speaker – because it IS one, but this is not your bargain bin speaker you get at a big box store and it’s evident from the moment you take it out of the box.2. It is LOUD! Which is exactly what you want from a speaker, of course. I am actually surprised at how loud it is…as a test I put it on our back patio and put on some classic rock, and I could definitely hear it in the house with the sliding glass doors closed.3. It is a great size for any place you want to take it – the boat, the beach, the BBQ, the tailgate – this thing is ready to crank up your favorite songs to 11 anytime you want.4. The battery life is awesome – I left it on for literally 2 days when it got here, having forgotten to turn it off and it was still fully charged. Wow!5. Comes with a built in phone charger, which is a great feature. My other Altec speaker has this too and it’s honestly one of my favorite features because it’s one less thing on my desk.6. The lighting is really cool and there are several options to choose from on it…really adds a little something to the speaker even though it’s subtle.7. The magnet. OMG THE MAGNET! Why don’t ALL Bluetooth speakers that are designed for being on the go have this?? It’s a great feature! It’s very strong, stays put where you want it to, and it adds a layer of flexibility to this speaker than really makes it so much more useful in so many different places. Basically…if the surface is metal, this speaker will stick to it. Easy peasy!8. It connects quickly to any smartphone, computer, or anything else with Bluetooth capability. It took me longer to get this out of the box than it did to listen to the first song on it.9. The waterproof claim checks out. When we received it, we accidentally left on our enclosed patio a little too close to that one section of the screened area where rain comes in sideways. (We live in FL; it’s a thing) The next morning I came out to find it SOAKED. But…still kicking! Haven’t tested if it floats yet but it will definitely be coming with us on the boat very soon so we shall see!10. It comes with a mounting kit so you can put it on a bike etc – super cool!11. It works with both Siri AND Alexa, making it extra easy to use it for just about anything.12. It has an awesome range – it claims to have 100 feet but I feel like it’s definitely more.Overall, there is not a single negative thing I can say about this speaker whatsoever. It really is THAT awesome and impressive. Is it more expensive than the typical Bluetooth speaker these days? YES. But is it absolutely worth EVERY DOLLAR given how much it does and how well it does it? A resounding YES Does it blow away the competition on every aspect I can think of? Also a resounding YES.If you need a Bluetooth speaker for ANY purpose – beach, boat, camping, workshop, garage…you name it – this one is perfect for all that and much more. It makes a fantastic gift too but if you are going to do that, order two because once you see it, you’ll definitely want to keep one for yourself 🙂
